26
year old Zeena was born & brought up in Nottingham.
Her father was from Pakistan & her mother is from
an Irish background.
Zeena's
natural singing gift was evident when, at the age of
15, she received a standing ovation at a School concert
singing with a class mate the classic 'Tonight I Celebrate
My Love For You'.
2001:
On the last train for Nottingham out of London's St.
Pancras Station sat an exhausted Zeena nursing a huge
headache. Zeena had taken 2 days off from her busy schedule
- studying for her Counselling & Psychotherapy degree
& working for a Nottingham Media company She had
travelled to London to record at Ben Robbin's Wimbledon
studio, going on to do TV interviews including Channel
5 Breakfast show which meant an early 4 am call that
morning.
Zeena
phoned ahead to be picked up at Nottingham station -
on arrival she was driven straight to hospital - her
schedule which included an active social life had caught
up with her - it was a relapse of viral meningitis that
had hospitalised Zeena for 6 weeks a year earlier -
a worrying set back to health & her recording career.
1999:
4Real Records Terry Scully was on his fourth visit to
Nottingham seeking to contact the voice he had heard
on a rough demo sent to him from Nottingham. On tracking
Zeena down he sought to sign her to a solo recording
contract - she was defensive, and reluctant to commit
to a career in Pop music.
Although
Zeena's talent had began to show in her early days at
Top Valley Comprehensive School, early abortive showcases
to record companies with local managers usually as part
of a girl group made Zeena determined to pursue her
work with under-privileged children.
Not
deterred Scully took Zeena to Wimbledon-based Pop producer
Ben Robbins. Ben confirmed Scully's belief in Zeena's
voice, and she was persuaded to record with Ben.
Early
dance mixes by Wayne G, Sleaze Sisters, Tuff Twins &
DJ Stuart B made Music Weeks Pop Tip Dance Charts, Porl
Young's Tuff Twins remix of 'Space' being sound bedded
on the SKY Sports channels.
Following
these early club successes and minor success with 'Time
& Space', and the animated promo video, the team
decided to record an album.
In
the meantime Ben had been made an offer not to be refused
- in house producer/writer at Rive Droite Studios at
Kingston upon Thames home of Cher's huge hit 'I Believe',
Porl Young London's heaven club DJ & record producer
took over production of the album and now Zeena is fully
recovered making trips to Porl's West Sussex Studios
on her days off.
In
May 2005 Porl delivered Zeena's debut album now titled
'DO I'. It had been a difficult journey - Scully makes
no excuses. "Its about a natural singing talent,
experienced writers/producers - coming together hoping
to create a bit of Pop magic".
